In the midst of champions I was fresh out of college and had no goals in mind for the future yet. I did try to apply for a job as cabin crew with a few airlines but didn't make it through on medical grounds. So, on the look out for a job / any job while I was waiting for the job of my dreams I learnt from a family friend that there was a vacancy in a Leukaemia Foundation for an assistant and I jumped at the opportunity to be employed for the time until I found something that I really wanted to do.
I joined the Max India office of The Max Foundation on 1st December 2003 and by first January 2004 I knew what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my years of employment. My reply to my father's sceptical question as to what I thought would be my career growth in a set up like this was “ give me some time and I would explain everything to you”Once I joined and began to go to the office I realised I did not know how to address the person I was working with ( it was my first job and there just the two of us ) So I directly asked her and she said , “ Well, my son and daughter in law call me Amma and you can do the same if you like “ It just sounded so perfect to me that from that very moment she did become my “Amma” Strong, powerful, charming and an amazing person to work with, she was and is my motivator. As time went by I began to learn the ropes and was introduced to a whole new world. Meeting new and different people from all walks of life and becoming a part of their amazing lives made me want all the more to continue to be a part of TMF longer and longer. I did get the opportunity to meet Pat our Director and her presence and personality helped me learn more about the mission of TMF. My meeting with each member of FOM is so special that I cannot thank you all enough for being the wonderful people you are. The strength, bravery and courage each one of you possesses make me what I am today. My Dad met most of the Friends of Max for the first time on 05 June 2005 at the All India meet in Mumbai. The look of joy and contentment on each person's face and the fact that they were all there together to share what they have and learn from each other made my father tell me “ I think I know now that there is no better place that I would like to see you than in the midst of these champions” |
